Three abnormal loads will be travelling in convoy from Avonmouth to Walsall in early September.
The loads, which are silos, will be leaving Avonmouth and joining the M5 at J18 and travelling north to J2 before carrying on to their final destination in Walsall.
The loads will travel in two legs. The first leg on Sunday 13 September from Avonmouth to J18 M5 and onto J8 where it will stay in the ab-load bay overnight until the second leg of its journey from J8 to Walsall by 7am on Monday 14 September. There are contingency dates for the loads to travel on Sunday 20 September and Monday 21 September.
Whilst it travels north on the M5 it will be escorted by Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and West Midlands Police through their respective areas. The load will straddle lanes 1 & 2. It will travel between 20 and 25mph and traffic will be able to pass in lane 3 when the load is moving. Due to its height it will lower the load under certain structures that cross the motorway. When this is happening, the carriageway will be required to be fully closed for approximately 15minutes.
The loads may pull across to the Hard Should and Lane 1 to release held traffic where it is possible to do so safely.
National Highways advice for drivers is to please plan ahead and to expect delays that could range from 60-90minutes. There are no diversion routes in place for this movement.
